The screen is a 270 degree circular screen with a diameter of 50 meters and a total area of 1700 square meters, which is the size of four standard basketball courts.

In fact, besides actors, architecture, vegetation, and light and shadow are all virtual scenes within LED screens. With the help of giant screens, costly scenes such as war and traffic can be achieved through a combination of virtual and real elements, with minimal amount of landscaping. At the same time, thousands of scenes can achieve minute level switching, with the previous second still bustling with traffic and the next second shrouded in misty rain.
This not only enhances the immersion and sense of presence in audio-visual effects, but also enables the digital preservation and reuse of previously time-consuming and laborious scenery and construction, "said Niu Cong, project coordinator of the President's Office of Bocai Media.
Behind the presentation of such an effect is a wealth of technical details.
Due to the huge screen size, the requirements for network throughput and computing power are naturally "top of the line". We use fiber optic cables to improve network speed, while providing computing power support with 58 ultra high performance hosts. We have also optimized the hosts with AI to increase machine response time by 20%. ”Guo Zhiwei, the virtual on-site team leader of Bocai Media, said.
In order to ensure that the final presentation is clear and realistic, while avoiding image lag caused by excessive 3D material, the Bocai team adopts real-time rehearsal technology to achieve high-precision visualization of the script. Before the official startup, the shooting content can be determined to the maximum extent possible, and the virtual scenes in the frame can be optimized based on the image. At present, the LED screen is industry-leading in terms of dot pitch, brightness value, grayscale level, and other dimensions.
In addition, real-time rendering technology allows directors and actors to preview the final image at the filming location, bidding farewell to the "post production blind box".
The efficiency is three times that of traditional film production, "said Guo Zhiwei. In the past, if there were any problems with lighting, art, costumes, and other aspects during filming, the entire team had to wait together for dozens of people. Now, after filming on site, it is the final shot, and when there is a need to adjust the details of the set, it can respond in real time.
In addition to hardware, behind a well crafted work, there is also a complete and efficient virtual production system. On five or six computer screens in the LED virtual studio, real-time information such as lens, focal length, color temperature, shooting mode, and image description is displayed. This is the production management system Kmoke independently developed by Bocai Media, which includes many "handy" digital tools.
This year, we introduced AI models into this system to further simplify the entire process. ”Wang Weidong, Director of the R&D Center of Bocai Media, said that there is currently a lack of integrated AI tools in the industry. They are developing an AI virtual production platform that integrates multiple functions such as text, images, audio, and video, and it is expected to be launched by the end of the year.
